Artist Statement
What
I explore local experiences with universal resonance to spark an interest in people to seek common ground. How do we all celebrate victories? Do we take pride in similar qualities? Does a kiss look the same everywhere? These reflections guide my process as I seek to reveal shared human experiences through the ordinary.
How
The cities I’ve called home—Amsterdam, Istanbul, and New York—each once serving as cultural capitals, have profoundly influenced my work. By blending the depth of Dutch Realism with the narrative richness of Ottoman Miniature Painting, I aim to bridge past and present. I embrace this by combining acrylics with new media technologies. This fusion of tradition and technology creates a visual language suited to addressing contemporary global issues.
Why
My generation is the first to grow up in a globally connected world, where shared media and experiences transcend borders. Through my art practice, I invite viewers to recognize this unique bond and reflect on our collective identity, encouraging a deeper connection in a world that is increasingly divided in the face of global challenges.
